Extended Label Info: Ina Maud Sheldon-Williams had a fine eye for detail and spent many years refining her practice. She, not unlike her husband Henry Inglis Sheldon-Williams, preferred to work in pencil, watercolor and oil paint, reflecting the style of realism that was popular during the turn of the twentieth century. This piece is a pencil sketch of husband who is, in turn, making a portrait of Ina. This is a draft for a painting that Ina would then make of her husband Inglis, a noteworthy painter of World War One. This small sketch contains incredible detail and is an excellent draft for the final piece that Ina finished later. This piece also displays the beautiful bond this wife and husband team shared through the making of art. Ina Maud Sheldon-Williams was active from 1900-1950. She was the wife of well-known husband Henry Inglis Sheldon-Williams, who was a prolific painter and water colour artist in the early 1900s and a Canadian war artist in WW1. It is not known if she had any formal education in the arts but what her artwork indicates a refined practice and a fine eye for detail.
