Extended Label Info: Lover’s Lane, as Highfield knew it, was a place he had seen many times on his walks. The scene is an oil painting of a walkway through the trees on a quiet sunny day with a clear sky in the woods. The sun lights the way for Lover’s Lane as a path for those to hold hands and be happy along this lush and promising pathway. Charles Fredrick Highfield (1877 -1946), was a Canadian artist in the 1900s, whose daughters donated many of his paintings to the Regina Public Library. It is not known if he had any formal training, but he was a talented photographer and an oil painter who enjoyed painting locations near where he lived in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan. He captured the simple prairie life with his landscape paintings in the 1930s and 40s.
