Extended Label Info: During her formative years in Sweden, Rigmor Clarke would spend her time in the hills and islands of Sweden, picking mushrooms and exploring the wilderness. Clarke would take school trips to the museums and art galleries where her love of nature drew her to landscape art and artists. Though she left Sweden when she was 14, the influence of Swedish artists is evidenced in her work. Imbued with the influence of Helmer Osslund whose powerful brush strokes and colours rendered clear depictions of the Nordic atmosphere, Prince Eugen’s paintings of dark brooding Swedish forests and Finnish artist Akseli Gallen Kallela’s emotive depictions of the wilderness of his homeland, Clarke’s own paintings of Northern Saskatchewan landscapes are rendered with loose and brushwork that captures her own love and respect for the land. Rigmor Clarke (1935- ) was born in Sweden and moved to Canada with her family in 1949 settling on a ranch near Mount Robson, at Tet Juane Cache, British Columbia. At the age of 21 moved to Shell Lake, Saskatchewan where she met her husband, started a family, farmed the land, and pursued her painting career. She has shown and sold her paintings all over Canada, to individuals, corporations and to public and private collections.
