Extended Label Info: This painting of a textured brown line on what appears to be derelict paper is all made through the persistence of Jonathan Forrest. Large pools of paint left to dry into a crust on papers edge and made to form a shape around the center column. This is can be seen as an exploration of texture and liminality from Forrest, creating abstract coloured columns in his series of similar paintings. Jonathan Forrest (1962-) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and came to Canada with his family in 1977. He received both his BFA (1983) and MFA (1991) from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Forrest has participated in numerous workshops at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan as well as attended the Triangle Artists’ Workshop in Brooklyn, New York. Forrest’s paintings have been exhibited across Canada and in the United States and England. His work is represented in other collections such as The Mendel Art Gallery Collection at Remai Modern, MacKenzie Art Gallery, University of Saskatchewan, University of Lethbridge, and the Edmonton Art Gallery.
