Extended Label Info: This print of a drawing etched onto steel is from an exhibition of Lexier’s work at Dunlop Art Gallery, “A Minute of My Time” (1998). This series consisted of drawings that each took exactly one minute to create. Lexier uses a variety of media: prints, chalkboard drawings, and etchings. His gestural, expressive mark-making contrasts the personal and individual against the organized logic of conceptual art and explores the way we measure and experience time. Micah Lexier (1960- ) Currently based in Toronto, Michah Lexier has built an international reputation working in a variety of media including curation, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, and installation. Born in Winnipeg, Lexier earned his BFA (1982) at the University of Manitoba (1982), and his MFA (1984) at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Reoccurring themes in his work include time, lifespan and mortality, the culture of language, and creating order from disarray. He has exhibited internationally, and in 2015 he was awarded the Governor Generals Award for excellence in the Visual Arts.
