Extended Label Info: Karen Schoonover is an experienced artist from Regina, Saskatchewan. Her work is expressionistic by nature and evokes the senses through her bold choice of colour and shape. Table and Chair gives off a feeling of tangibility. Displayed in the foreground is a kitchen chair, with a coffee table with a bowl bearing fruit slightly behind it. In the right-hand corner, a flowering branch hangs above the scene. The colour choice is playful and ignites feelings of warmth, energy, and being home wherever that might be. Karen Schoonover (1952 - ) was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan. She earned her BFA with a double major in painting and ceramics from the University of Calgary (1975). Schoonover was an active member of the arts community for more than 40 years as both a practicing artist and arts administrator. She was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Women Artists Association in the 1980s, at a time when women artists were often excluded from major institutions and public collections. As an advocate for the arts, she served as an executive member for CARFAC National, the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance, and the Saskatchewan Women Artists Association. She received the Tony Award (2013) from CARFAC National in recognition of her significant contribution to the establishment, growth, and advancement of CARFAC Saskatchewan and the arts community in the province.
