Extended Label Info: Holly Fay’s art practice explores connections within ecological systems, and the visual similarities between microscopic and macroscopic environments. Visually, her images flow between the representational and the abstract. Though untitled, this drawing is one of a series collectively known as “Floating Worlds” and was exhibited in 2015 at Dunlop Art Gallery. To create this series, Fay worked with graphite on paper, using pencil marks and smudges to build images of cloud-like entities which could be tiny sea creatures or vast, aerial structures. Holly Fay is a Regina-based artist, teacher, curator, and writer. She earned her BEd (1985) and BFA (1989) at University of Regina, and her MFA (1994) from University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her art practice encompasses painting, drawing and installation with projects examining ecology and natural systems, phenomenology, ideas of place, the representation of nature, and environmental grief and disquietude. Prior to joining the Faculty of Media, Art and Performance at University of Regina, Fay was the Director / Curator at Art Gallery of Regina. Fay’s work has been exhibited in Canada and internationally, and is in public collections including Dunlop Art Gallery, MacKenzie Art Gallery, City of Regina, and the SK Arts Permanent Collection.
