Extended Label Info: Alan D. Wesaquate’s piece utilizes cibrachrome to depict imagery of Indigenous interactions pre-and post colonial contact. Cibrachrome is a photographic process used for the reproduction of film transparencies on photographic paper. Multiple layered images are visible, including a comic book strip detailing a conversation between Indigenous men in traditional regalia, modern policeman with vehicles and stores in the background, as well as news article clippings. While exploring multiple forms of Indigenous representation Wesaquate also references the complex experiences that Indigenous people have endured. Alan D. Wesaquate’s work has been exhibited in many galleries across North America. His work has also been featured in solo exhibits including Native Indian Inuit Photographers Gallery, Hamilton, Ontario (1995), Kinslang Gallery, Vancouver, B.C (1996), Two Rivers Gallery, Minneapolis, Minnesota (1996), Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado (1996), Scared Circle Gallery, Seattle, Washington (1997) and Sâkêwêwak First Nations Collective, Regina, Saskatchewan (1997).
