Extended Label Info: Though Don McVeigh uses very ordinary objects as subject matter for his artwork, his compositions transcend these humble materials, and transform fabrics, string, bamboo, and other natural material such as flowers and feathers into magical or and meditative arrangements. With great skill, McVeigh creates a trompe l’oeil effect that appears near photographic in its sense of realism. As such, McVeigh brings his subject matter to life and creates an optical illusion that captures our eye and our imagination. Don McVeigh (1951- ) Don McVeigh was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He is known for his strong compositions and precise realism in his watercolours and print works. McVeigh studied printmaking at the University of Alberta and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1972. Moving to Saskatchewan, he studied at the University of Regina, and earned his Master of Fine Arts in 1978. In 1985, he moved to Ottawa where he currently teaches drawing at the Ottawa School of Art. McVeigh's works have been exhibited across Canada since the early 1970s. and his work is represented in several public and private collections.
