Extended Label Info: Michel Fortier (1943-2019) was born in Montreal Quebec. He was a Canadian Postwar painter and Contemporary printmaker, involved with the pop art scene in the 1960’s and 70’s. He studied at the college Andre-Grasset and the Montreal School of Fine Arts. In 1966, Michel and fellow contemporary Ronald Perrault set up the first screen printing art studio contributing to the pop art movement happening in Quebec. Michel is known for his political work that reflected the social issues of the time, notably worker and artist labor movements. His work has been featured in an exhibition at the Naples Art Association, and can be found in various public and private collections including the National Gallery of Canada, and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
