This painting shows a small section of the river just near the highway, that Highfield found visually interesting. This work was donated to the Regina Public Library’s Permanent Collection by Highfield’s daughters after his passing. Charles Fredrick Highfield (1877 -1946), was a Canadian artist in the 1900s, whose daughters donated many of his paintings to the Regina Public Library. It is not known if he had any formal training, but he was a talented photographer and an oil painter who enjoyed painting locations near where he lived in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan. He captured the simple prairie life with his landscape paintings in the 1930s and 40s.
