Extended Label Info: Marie Lannoo has developed a lengthy career investigating how we perceive colour and light through the optical effects of her two-dimensional work. In this work, Lannoo employs paint techniques to create a visual texture that might be reminiscent of wood, water, oil or other natural elements, which often inspires her work. Concerned with optical effects, Lannoo strives to tantalize the senses, often inspiring visceral reactions in viewers through unique experimentation of her media. Marie Lannoo (1954 -) was born in Delhi, Ontario. She earned her BFA (1980) at the University of Saskatchewan, studying painting with noted abstract artist Otto Rogers, and participating in the Emma Lake workshops, the Banff School of Arts, and in Virton, Belgium. Currently based in Saskatoon, Lannoo is known for her rigorous experiments with the materials, creating abstract artworks that play with the physical properties of surface and light, including prismatic foil, interference paint, and mineral powder paper. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally, and is held in private and public collections, including the Canada Council Art Bank.
