Extended Label Info: With an early career as a representational artist, Marie Lannoo has developed a reputation as an outstanding abstract painter whose work explores ideas of surface, reflection, and depth. In much of her work, Lanoo explores the perceptual and optical experience of looking at a painting, using multiple illusory devices, such as highly reflective built-up acrylic surface that incorporates and absorbs the viewers reflections. The title of this work, HTTP, references the digital age where imagery and information are reduced to pixelated dots and comments on the changing nature of how we receive images in a technological age. Marie Lannoo (1954- ) was raised in Delhi, Ontario. She studied at the University of Saskatchewan earning her BFA in 1980. She continued her art training at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1980) and at several workshops a Emma Lake, SK (1981, 1983, 1984, 2000). Some of her greatest artistic influences are Otto Rogers, Eli Bornstein, Mark Rothko and Zaha Hadid. Lannoo’s work has been shown in Canada and the United States. Her paintings are represented in collections such as the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa), University of Saskatchewan and the Government of Alberta.
