Extended Label Info: Lee Henderson is a contemporary artist whose practice includes video, photography, installation, sculpture, performance, and text. His work moves in constant contemplation of death, in senses grand and minute, somewhere between the persistence of collective histories and the brevity of individual lives. In this photographic series, Henderson has taken photos of mannequins bereft of jewlery after-hours at jewlery stores. These naked mannequins have been removed from their purpose of displaying jewlery and have been made into breastplates, making them change from being a place to display to being a form that guards and conceals. These objects are usually displaying things people desire but when stripped from that they show the foundation of how desire spawns from not having. Lee Henderson was born and raised on the Canadian prairies. He is a contemporary artist whose practice includes video, photography, installation, sculpture, performance, and text. His work moves in constant contemplation of death, in senses grand and minute, somewhere between the persistence of collective histories and the brevity of individual lives. Henderson has studied art in Canada and Germany, holding a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design (2003) and an MFA from the University of Regina (2005). Henderson's work can be found in private and public collections including the Mendel Art Gallery/Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan, the University of Regina President's Collection, and The Center for Fine Art Photography USA. Lee Henderson’s exhibition at Zalucky Contemporary “Never Letting Us Take Breath” was awarded the 2016 Gattuso Prize for best exhibition during Toronto’s prestigious CONTACT Photography Festival.
