Extended Label Info: This digital print by Jeffrey Veregge was included in the 2016 Dunlop Art Gallery exhibition When Raven Became Spider, guest curated by Leena Minifie. This exhibition toured nationally to five galleries and featured six contemporary Indigenous artists and storytellers whose work blurs the line between oral stories and contemporary pop art. Jeffrey Veregge gained popularity through his interpretation of iconic super-heroes combining both references to popular comic icons with visual styles of his of S’Klallum (Port Gamble/Coast Salish) ancestors. He uses comics to consider the idealization of good vs. evil, and the hero’s journey. In his words “The work I am doing using pop culture icons is no different than my ancestors, using form-line to share tales of Raven, Eagle, Wolf, and Bear”. Jeffrey Veregge is an award-winning Native American Artist & Writer from the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe near Kingston, Washington. He received his education at The Art Institute of Seattle, WA in 2000. He is best known for his use of form-line design with pop culture inspiration which his fans dub "Salish Geek". He has over 100 comic book covers working for Marvel, IDW, Valiant, Dynamite, Boom! & Darkhorse Comics. He has exhibited widely throughout the USA and Canada and has won numerous awards and mural commissions. His story and works have been featured in The Huffington Post, Fast Company Magazine, Wired Magazine (Germany), Entertainment weekly, Seattle Times and Magazine, Evening Magazine and many others.
