Extended Label Info: This work by Rodney Graham is an intaglio, or copper etch, print of Wilhelm Grimm’s study in Berlin, as it was in 1860. Wilhelm Grimm was one of the famous Brothers Grimm who were known for their their great myths and folktales. Graham was approximately 20 years old when he created this print and it was one of his first artworks he made while studying at the University of British Columbia. He would reminisce on this print for over 30 years until in 1993 he recreated it as the other Grimm brother’s study, Jacob Grimm’s study in Berlin in 1860. Rodney Graham was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada in 1949. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1971 and lives and works in Vancouver. Solo exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona; Kunstmuseum, Basel; Hamburger Kunsthalle; Jeu de Paume, Paris; Sprengel Museum, Hannover (where he was the recipient of the Kurt Schwitters Prize), and the BAWAG Foundation in Vienna, Austria. He has been included in recent group exhibitions at La Maison Rouge, Paris; Vancouver Art Gallery; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; and CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco.
